Tahi is one

Here is our last video showing you what we learnt during Te Wiki o te Reo Maori. We already knew how to count to ten in Maori, but now we know how to count up to 100 in tens. Check out our video.

No hea koe?

As part of Te Wiki o te Reo Maori, we learnt the phrase: No hea koe? (Where are you from?) and the reply,              No _____ ahau ( I am from _______).

We spent time looking at world maps and locating where we come from. Not only did we learn about where New Zealand is, we also found out about other countries on the map. Here is a video of our learning.

Te Wiki o te Reo Maori

This week is Te Wiki o te Reo Maori (Maori Language Week), the theme is 'Arohatia te Reo – cherish the language'. Today we talked about the Maori vowels: A E I O U. We have made a video based on this YouTube video.

We took photos of the Maori vowels, in our classroom and around the school and recorded ourselves singing the vowel song.

Matariki Celebration!

On Friday, we had a Matariki celebration with A3. Matariki is the Maori new year. To mark this special occasion, we flew kites and prepared and ate a big feast of root vegetables, apple crumble and cake.

Tena Koe

This week, our blog is the focus in our Quadblogging team and since the three other blogs we are working with are from other countries around the world, we thought we would welcome them with a Maori greeting song.

Tena koe - hello to one person
Tena koe - hello to two people
Tena koutou - hello to 3 or more
Haere mai - come here or welcome
