We used Anthony Browne's book, Little Beauty as inspiration for our portraits. We noticed that he created some of his illustrations with a very simple pencil sketch and a detailed background. We used this idea to create some pictures of ourselves and here are the results.

B6 and A4 get Crackin'
Last Friday, A4 and B6 decided to cook some of the vegetables growing in the gardens. They used the vegetables and herbs to make a frittata. Here is a slideshow of how they made their frittata.

Stories on Puppet Pals
One of the literacy activities in B6 is to create a story on Puppet Pals using the iPad. Some of the children have been learning how to create their own puppets by drawing a character and taking a photo or by taking a photo of themselves dressed up.

Silver Snail Trails
The Ladybugs group read a non-fiction book about snails and they learnt a lot of new information. They have illustrated their new learning through art and by recording their ideas on the Easi-Speak.

Spring Harvest
Broad beans have been growing in our Junior school gardens! Some of the children from B6 have been picking them and taking them out of their pods. They have used SonicPics to record their experience.

The Three Little Pigs
We have been reading about the Three Little Pigs. On Friday we watched Walt Disney's Silly Symphony version of the story. We decided to make our own video of the story using illustrations and instrument sounds.

Wally Turns 7!
On Friday, Wally the giraffe turned 7 years old. A3 invited us to a special surprise birthday party. Wally did not suspect a thing. We had so much fun at the party. Here is a video of the highlights.

Octopuses
The Ladybugs reading group have been reading some very interesting non-fiction books. This week, they read a story about octopuses. As a follow-up activity they had to record something new they learnt on the Easi-Speak and create an illustration using Microsoft Paint.

To the Rescue!
As part of our study of flight, we have been talking about imaginary characters that fly. The children in B6 were particularly interested in superheroes. We created superheroes by importing pictures we took into Microsoft Paint and adding detail.

No hea koe?
As part of Te Wiki o te Reo Maori, we learnt the phrase: No hea koe? (Where are you from?) and the reply, No _____ ahau ( I am from _______).
We spent time looking at world maps and locating where we come from. Not only did we learn about where New Zealand is, we also found out about other countries on the map. Here is a video of our learning.

100 Days of School!
All year we have been counting the days we have been at school and on Friday we reached 100 days! So we had a 100 Day Party. We invited A3 to come along. B6 made a 100 day cake and A3 made honey crackle.

Te Wiki o te Reo Maori
This week is Te Wiki o te Reo Maori (Maori Language Week), the theme is 'Arohatia te Reo – cherish the language'. Today we talked about the Maori vowels: A E I O U. We have made a video based on this YouTube video.
We took photos of the Maori vowels, in our classroom and around the school and recorded ourselves singing the vowel song.

Holiday Move!

Matariki Celebration!
On Friday, we had a Matariki celebration with A3. Matariki is the Maori new year. To mark this special occasion, we flew kites and prepared and ate a big feast of root vegetables, apple crumble and cake.

Who will be my Mother?
We have been reading the big book, "Who will be my mother?" by Joy Cowley. Sonya, Kanye and Maddison have used Puppetpals on the iPad to create this show based on the big book. They recorded their show independently, well done girls!
