Trunks, Humps and Tails

During the week the Frogs reading group read a non-fiction book called Trunks, Humps and Tails. Here is a video of the new information they learnt from reading the book.

This will be the last video we will see from the Frogs reading group on this blog. As of next week they will be in Room A8. We will miss you!

Wombat Goes Walkabout

Yay! Wattle and Wally have finally arrived from Melbourne, Australia. We were so excited to meet them. Here are some pictures of their arrival.

Frog Art

The Life Cycle of a Frog

Due to the arrival of our new pet frog in A block, we have spent a lot of time studying frogs. Here are two well sequenced stories by Jerome and Rooshan about the life cycle of a frog.

Teddy Bears Picnic

On Friday, our teddy bears came to school for the day. They did everything with us: Jump Jam, assembly, reading books and they were the special guests at our annual Teddy Bears Picnic.

Before the day ended, our super scribe Hayzel, decided to write about her day.

Mammals

Last week, the Frogs reading group read a non-fiction book about Mammals. As a follow-up activity they had to draw a mammal and justify their choice. They then recorded their findings.



Where is Minxy?

On Tuesday night, one of our school cats Minxy, went missing. We are all very sad and we hope that she is okay. Her sister Poppy, is feeling very lonely. Minxy has a blue collar on and she has a white spot on her nose. The children were so concerned, that they decided that we should write stories and make a video.

The Fantastic Feijoa Cake

 Last week, The Fantastic Cake by Joy Cowley, was our big book for the week. We decided to make a fantastic cake on Friday, but we wanted to make it a little different so we made a feijoa cake. Here is a video of what we did.

Healthy Eating

Last Friday, our language experience was all about healthy eating. We talked about the importance of eating fruit and vegetables and we made a healthy snack - fruit kebabs! Here is a video of what we did.

Mucking In

We put compost and sheep pellets
 on the soil.

On Thursday afternoon, A3 and A4 planted all of the new plants that Ms Mulrennan bought for us. We were so impressed with how the children planted the plants all by themselves.

We leveled the compost and pellets with rakes.

We also planted
lots of flowers.

We planted lettuce, cabbage,
bok choy and corn.

Pop, Pop, POP!

Last Friday, we went outside and blew bubbles as part of a language experience. Here is a video of what we did, including some of the stories the children wrote about the experience.

Clearing the Garden

When we came back from the holidays, the plants in our garden were huge! They were too big for their garden bed, so last week we cleared the garden to get it ready for some new plants. We used a lot of the vegetables to feed Chester and Stu and we even collected some been seeds from our been plant.

Classroom Quilt

Over the past two weeks, we have been very busy making a classroom quilt. We had to draw a picture of ourselves using black paint and dye on material. Then Helen (Miss Lepou's mum) sewed up the quilt for us. Thank you very much Helen.

We are Smarty Pants!

This week, we have been reading Smarty Pants by Joy Cowley. We have been talking about what makes us smarty pants. We have also created some fantastic clown art inspired by a great website:  Art Projects for Kids. Here is a video of the results.

Computer Art

It is a new year and many of us are learning a lot of new computer skills. We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Kid Pix at our school. So we have been practicing using the computer to create illustrations. We also had to try and type our name on our pictures. Here are the results.

Bakers' Delight

Today, we carried out our first Language Experience of 2011. We made some delicious vanilla cupcakes. Here is a slide show of what we did.

Hi! My name is...

We have spent the last two days getting to know each other. We have been learning how to introduce ourselves to the class using a clear voice. This is the first time a lot of the new children have been recorded onto video. 

Counting to 10!

Today was our first day back at school! It was great to be back. We played a lot of number games and made some new numbers to put up on the wall to help us with our mathematics.
