Meri Kirihimete!

Last week, was the end of the 2011 school year. Thank you to everybody who has viewed our blog and left us comments. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. We look forward to sharing more of our learning with you in 2012!

The Wheels on the Bus

Last week on Friday, the junior school went into the city to take part in a special concert at the Auckland Town Hall. We also had a look around the Aotea Square and saw some amazing performers. We really enjoyed the bus ride, especially singing on the bus.

Poor Mr McGee

A4 have been reading a lot of books by Pamella Allen, about Mr McGee. We feel very sorry for him because he lives under a tree and bad things always happen to him. Here is a short animation of Mr McGee that we found on YouTube.

The Picnic

On Tuesday, A1 invited our class to a picnic. We had a great time. We made fruit kebabs to take along and A1 brought fairy bread and corn chips. It was a beautiful sunny day. Thank you A1! Here is a video of our picnic with some stories written by Ubaid, Leilah and Paki.

Happy Halloween

On Friday, A3 and A4 celebrated Halloween. We cooked mummy heads, escaped from zombies, ate friendly ghosts and ran away with some pumpkins. Here is a slideshow of our celebration.

Tile Mosaics

We have been working very hard on an art project for outside our classroom block. We have been making flower mosaics, using broken ceramic tiles, on squares of wood. Here is a slideshow of how we made them.



The tiles have now been mounted outside A Block and they look fantastic! Come on down and check them out.

The Lion King

We had to use our tickets to
get into the movies
Last Friday, A4 and A3 finished off their study of lions with a special screening of The Lion King.  
We used plastic money
 to buy lollies and popcorn

Our New Sandpit

  A block's new sandpit is almost finished! Last week, a truck arrived with our sand and it got stuck in the mud. When we finally got the sand, we helped to shovel it into the new sandpit. Here is some footage of our busy day.

Wally Returns!

Today we received a parcel from our friends in Australia. It was Wally the giraffe. He has returned from his holiday and he brought back presents for all of us!
We all got new key rings!
Wally had a new scarf!

The Preps sent us a book with

We were also given Australian
balloons and an Australian flag!

Oh, Jump in a Sack!

This week, we have been reading the big book Oh, Jump in a Sack, written by Joy Cowley. It is a story about a cheeky balloon, who does not want to be tied down. 


As part of our language experience today, we blew up balloons and played lots of different games. Here is a video of what we did.

Monkey See, Monkey Do

On Wednesday, as part of our study of Predators, we went to the Auckland Zoo. We had a great day and we learnt a lot of new things. Wally the wombat came with the us, too. Here is a slideshow of our trip.
